Enhanced Safety Functions

Your benefits:

How it works:

• For the release of operating elements, the operator must touch the joystick or put their hand on the roll-over bar.
• The activation is indicated by LEDs on the front panel/transmitter vibration (optional).

The personalised login card merlin® TUC (Transmitter User Card) is the key to managing access rights, protecting the radio control, and the machine itself, safely and reliably from unauthorised use.

Your advantages:

• Convenient credit card size, with individual card design (names, logos, ect.)
• Individual merlin® TUC configuration allows for the locking and unlocking of specific functions.
• Combination with a HBC data logger for operator-specific data collection.

How it works:

• To activate the radio control, the operator holds the merlin TUC close to the transmitter.
• The control identifies the operator and unblocks the respective functions.

You are able to benefit from the self-contained radiomatic® report even if there is no radio control installed on your machine, simply connected to the machine electronics with a plug.

Your advantages:

• Locking and unlocking of functions by individual merlin® TUC configuration, protecting the machine from unauthorised use.
• Definition of each merlin® TUC to which machine the card user should have access – Allowing internal organisation of access rights to machines with barely any effort.
• Combined with a HBC data logger allows the collection of precise user-specific login times.

How it works:

• The self-contained unit is connected directly to the machine electronics.
• To start the machine, the operator holds their merlin^® TUC to the activated device. The machine can then be controlled as normal.
• Individual access rights are assigned by the user-specific merlin TUC.
• To collect login data, the device is also optionally available with an integrated data logger.

With radiomatic^® Infrakey, the operator can only activate the radio system when there is an infrared connection between the transmitter and the receiver.

Your advantages:

• This function protects the operator and others in the vicinity of the machine from dangerous situations that result from an unintended or accidental activation of the radio control.

How it works:

• During the activation, the operator must intentionally point the transmitter in the direction of the receiver.
• The maximum range of the infrared beam is 20m.
• The angle of infrared radiation is approx. 30°.

The two-step enabling switch is a special element which has to be operated to enable a set of defined functions.

Your advantages:

• Working safety during maintenance and service work on or in the machine is considerably increased.
• For applications with more than one operator, dangerous situations caused by misunderstandings are prevented.

How it works:

• The enabling switch is either integrated to the roll-over bar or placed on the front panel with a yellow button. 
• For control commands to be sent to the machine, the operator must press the button into the first step. Only then can the other operating elements be operated.
• If the operator releases the button or presses it into the second step, all machine functions are immediately stopped.
• The enabling switch thus protects the operator from dangerous unintended operations of the machine in case the operator loses consciousness or control over the transmitter.
• For applications with more than one user, movement commands can only be performed if all operators press the enabling switch into the first step.

These safety features can detect different dangerous situations and, depending on the circumstance, react in one of the following ways:

• The complete radio system will shut down.
• Safety-relevant functions will be deactivated.
• A previously defined function will be activated (e.g. horn).

Your advantages:

• The unintended output of control commands is prevented.
• The operator is protected if control over the radio transmitter is lost in specific emergencies.

How it works:

• radiomatic^® Shock-Off protects the operator when the transmitter receives a hard impact – for example, if the transmitter is hit by a hard object and is no longer under control.
• radiomatic® Roll-Detect can activate if the transmitter is unintentionally rolled.
• radiomatic^® Zero-G can activate when the transmitter slips out of the hand or is thrown.
• radiomatic^® Inclination Switch can activate if the transmitter exceeds an inclination of approx. 45° for a pre-set time or lies face-down.
• The sensitivity of the features can be configured and adjusted to suit the specific application.

This feature will activate if the user questionably operates one or more joysticks. If a joystick is moved quickly in different directions, for example, this intelligent function is activated.

Depending on the version, this feature can operate in three different ways:

• The complete radio system will shut down.
• Safety-relevant functions will be deactivated.
• A previously defined function will be activated (e.g. horn).

Your advantages:

• The operator is protected from rapid or sudden movements of the crane/machine.
• The machine is protected from wear and tear because abrupt movements are avoided.

Micro drive limits the driving speed to a pre-defined value.

Your advantages:

• The operator is protected from dangerous situations caused by high driving speeds.
• Challenging movement operations can be accomplished in a safe and precise manner.

How it works:

• If needed, the operator simply activates an automatic driving speed limit with a button or a switch. Even if the joystick is fully engaged, this speed limit cannot be exceeded.
• The maximum speed for the micro drive can be customised.

The orthogonal drive is a first-come, first-served system where only one motion at a time can be operated.

Your advantages:

• The feature gives the operator greater control where precise/delicate operations are being carried out.

How it works:

• With orthogonal drive, the operator can only move the crane/machine in the direction that was first selected with the joystick.
• To change the direction, the joystick must first be placed in the zero position.

The front panel lighting consists of several LEDs in the roll-over bar, in the display module or on the transmitter’s front panel.

Your benefits:

• The operator can always keep an eye on the control, even in unfavourable lighting conditions or in the dark.
• Enhanced work safety.

How it works:

• The operator activates the LED lighting with a switch or button when needed.

A powerful LED flashlight is installed in the transmitter housing. It can be activated by the operator when needed.

Your advantages:

• Even in darkness, the operator has a good view of the working environment and their path.

How it works:

• The flashlight is easily activated by a switch or button.

This HBC feature provides haptic feedback of different statuses and feedback information.

Your advantages:

• The operator is informed of critical machine conditions, error notifications, and warnings by a noticeable vibration.
• This function is of valuable help if the operator does not notice the indications of visual alarms.

How it works:

• As a standard, the vibration alarm is configured to indicate a low battery level.
• Optionally, it can also be used for feedback information, such as warnings about possible overloads or high wind speeds.
• The selection of information indicated by the vibration alarm is completely customisable.
• The critical value when the vibration alarm is triggered can also be customised.

radiomatic^® Photon provides the operator with live video images from the working environment – directly to the colour display of the radio transmitter.

• Areas with limited view and dead spots can be observed, avoiding potentially dangerous situations.
• Different movement operations become considerably easier, and the operator can work precisely.
• For surveillance tasks and machine control, long walking distances are eliminated because the operator always has an eye on the situation via the video display.
